Homestead History

Hansen Guest Ranch & Event Venue was homesteaded in 1901 by Alfred Bernard and was first established as a cattle ranch on 200 acres. Some buildings built in the 1890s - including the barn built in 1890 and the rock house built in 1883 - still stand on the property to this day. In 1919, Alfred sold the property to John and Amy Miller. They had the Wrangler’s Cottage built in 1939 and the main house in 1948. Archie and Geneva McCay purchased the ranch in 1958. They kept the business going until 1985 when brothers Que and Brett Hansen acquired the property and decided to turn it into a guest ranch. In 1996, they had the Rainbow and Cottonwood cabins built. In 2003, they upgraded Hansen Guest Ranch & Event Venue with a dining hall, bunkhouse, and a multi-purpose building.
